THE DESIGN PROCESS

Learn how to deliver an interior design project professionally, confidently — and profitably.

Knowing how to create a beautiful interior is one thing.

Knowing how to manage an interior design project from the first client conversation through to a complete implementation is another.

Where do you start?
Which decisions need to be made first?
What information do you need from your client?
When should you establish the budget?
When do you select materials, finishes, lighting or furniture?
How do you keep hundreds of individual decisions connected to one coherent design?
And how do you make sure the project you have designed can actually be delivered?

This is where a professional design process becomes essential.

The Design Process is designed to help aspiring and recently qualified interior designers understand how real interior design projects are kicked off, structured, developed and delivered — beyond inspiration, trends or intuition alone.

It gives you a complete, step-by-step methodology developed through decades of professional interior design practice and teaching.

The objective is simple:

To give you a process you can return to, project after project.

Good design needs more than good ideas

One of the biggest challenges when you begin working as an interior designer is not necessarily knowing what looks good.

It is knowing what to do next. It is knowing what I call the Domino Effect.

Professional projects involve a constant sequence of interconnected decisions. Layout affects lighting. Lighting affects electrical planning. Furniture affects circulation. Material choices affect budget. Design decisions affect implementation.

Make those decisions in the wrong order and you may find yourself redesigning, revising specifications, exceeding budgets or solving problems on site that could have been anticipated much earlier.

Professionals therefore don't rely on inspiration alone.

They rely on process.

And that process can be learned.

What you will learn

The course takes you through the complete interior design process so you understand not only what professionals do, but when they do it and why.

You will learn:

  • How professionals move from the initial brief to project execution
  • How an interior design project is structured from beginning to end
  • How to gather and organise the information you need before designing
  • How design decisions are sequenced — and why that sequence matters
  • How to develop a complete and coherent interior design
  • How to use the professional tools of the trade
  • How to monitor project progress, timelines and budgets
  • How to communicate clearly with your client throughout the project
  • How to think methodically rather than relying solely on intuition
  • How to build a process you can repeat and refine with every project you take on

The goal is not to tell you what style to design.

It is to teach you how to work as a designer.

A 10-step journey through a real design process

The course is organised into 10 modules, each corresponding to a milestone in the design and delivery of an interior design project.

Rather than learning isolated skills, you follow the project in the order in which decisions need to be made.

Step by step, you learn how to take a project from its starting point to a complete design ready for implementation.

Along the way, you will learn how to:

Build the foundations of the project
Understand the brief, the client, the space, the constraints and the parameters that will guide your decisions.

Develop the design systematically
Move through the different layers of the interior in a logical sequence so that each decision supports the next.

Use professional working tools
Learn how to organise information, document decisions and manage the many elements that make up an interior design project.

Control the project
Keep an eye on progress, timing and budget as the design develops rather than discovering problems at the end.

Communicate professionally
Keep your client informed, explain decisions and provide clarity throughout the project.

By the end, you won't simply have learned a collection of interior design principles.

You will understand how they fit together into a professional working method.

Who this course is for

The Design Process is for you if you are:

  • An aspiring interior designer who wants to understand how professional projects actually work
  • A recently qualified designer who has learned design principles but still feels uncertain about managing a complete project
  • A career switcher looking for a structured introduction to professional interior design practice
  • A serious learner who values method, structure and clarity
  • Someone who wants to move beyond “What should I design?” and understand “How should I approach this project?”

You do not need decades of experience to start working methodically.

You need a process.

Who this course is not for

This is not a course about decorating a room for yourself.

It is not a catalogue of current trends.

It is not a collection of style formulas or quick design hacks.

And it does not promise shortcuts to becoming a professional interior designer.

Instead, it teaches the method behind professional practice — the structure that helps you approach every new project with greater clarity and confidence.

Learn at your own pace

The course has been designed so you can work through the process progressively and return to it whenever you need it.

You receive:

  • Immediate and lifetime online access to the course through your own login,
  • 10 clearly organised modules, containing lessons on each design elements, focus on specific spaces and a guide to communicating with your clients about the project progression,
  • Downloadable course support materials, cheat sheets, checklists,
  • For every module, a link to an updated Project Schedule, hosted by Notion,
  • Practical tools and resources you can refer back to as your own projects develop
  • A follow along project to see first hand how the lesson translates practically into a real life project.

Learn at your own pace, revisit individual stages when necessary and gradually build a working method that becomes increasingly natural with practice.

The course isn't designed to be consumed once and forgotten.

It is designed to become a reference you can return to when working on your own projects.

Why I created The Design Process

Helping clients and sharing my knowledge of interior design through teaching, tutoring and workshops has always been an important part of my career.

Over decades of professional practice, I have also seen that one of the hardest things to teach is not creativity.

It is process.

When you have worked in the profession for many years, the sequence of decisions becomes almost instinctive. You know which questions need answering before you move forward. You recognise when a decision is being made too early. You anticipate how one choice will affect another later in the project.

But someone entering the profession hasn't yet had the years of experience required to develop those instincts.

That is why I created this course.

I wanted to take the process that sits behind professional interior design projects, break it down into clear stages and make it accessible to people who are serious about learning how the profession actually works.

Online learning allows me to share that experience with aspiring designers wherever they are — and to give you something more useful than a collection of design rules:

a methodology you can make your own.

From inspiration to professional practice

You may already have creativity.

You may already have an eye for interiors.

You may already know the kind of designer you want to become.

The Design Process gives you the structure behind it.

A method for approaching the project.
A sequence for making decisions.
A framework for managing the work.
And a process you can use again and again.

Learn the process. Then make it yours.

FAQ

How do I access the course?

Once you have paid for the course, we will send you immediately a lifetime access login via email.

You can then access your course anytime you want and download the available resources as many times as you want.

How long will it take me to learn the course?

You will need to sit through the whole course to learn it comprehensively. There are no lessons you can skip and the lessons have to be watched in the sequence they appear to fully grasp The Design Method.

You can watch the course and stop it at any point in time to apply what you have just learned to your own project but I strongly recommend you watch it in full once before you apply The Design Method onto your first professional project. It is recommended to understand the full journey before launching yourself into a real-life project.

Do I need a qualification in Interior Design to follow the course?

If you have a natural eye for interior design you will get through the course easily enough but this course assumes you have an understanding of interior design.

If you want to want as a professional, you will still need to acquire your professional certification from an institute habilitated to issue it.

What the course does not teach?

The course does not replace the education as an interior designer that you will formally receive from a professional organization.

It does not teach either how to use a design software such as SketchUp, even though SketchUp based work is being shown on this course.

English is not my mother tongue; will I understand the course easily?

English is not my mother tongue either! I do not have a particularly strong accent but you can always use subtitles if you get stuck.

I also provide you with a technical glossary because I am aware of the different terms used for describing the same thing.

What digital equipment do I need to access the course?

You need a computer or an Ipad though a computer is better as the screen is larger. The course will be accessible through my website.

You will also need a free subscription of the Notion software (inside the course I teach how to use it and navigate through its different features)

If I have a question, who I contact?

I have created a private group on Facebook that every student will be able to access; there you can ask questions about interior design and about the course.

I will remain available for any technical question concerning your access to the course.

What kind of interior design projects can I manage after studying this course.

The Design Process is a method that can be applied to any type on interior design projects: apartment or house, small and large spaces, residential and commercial.

For commercial projects more than for private ones, there is usually a long list of technical regulations to comply with. Make sure you are aware of those for the country you work in.
